Cd review #5, southern soul rock.

Hey errbody,

Chuffy is back after a 3 week time off from the tour. Thank you to everyone who came out and sang to Jesus with us. I'm sitting in my house with my 2 girls and the baby daughter of a good friend right now. This has been a great month of rest and relaxation from traveling. I built a playground for my daughters and I'm about to start landscaping my backyard, so even though I've been relaxing, I've still been busy at home. We hit the road again in mid-June after a trip to Rwanda and Burundi with World Vision, which is the first time the whole band will be together for a trip with them. They took 3 of us to Cabarnet, Kenya and they took Mark to India. I'm getting a little excited about this trip because my family and I have a little boy we sponsor in Rwanda. I'm hoping I get a chance to meet him while we're there. Please keep our trip in your prayers, there will be lots of pictures to follow.

Now, for this edition of Chuffy's cd review, where there are no bad reviews. This is all reference resource for students, parents, and youth pastors alike looking for good, clean, and most important, Godly music. The cd this time is called "The Outsiders" from one of my favorite rock bands, Needtobreathe. If you're not familiar with their music, let me just ask you, why not? I will bring you up to speed on this great South Carolina rock group. Their first 2 records "Daylight" and "The Heat" are great albums, firmly establishing their sound and presence as a live band. Such songs as "You Are Here", "More Than", "Washed In The Water", and "Yahweh(Signature of Divine) are great examples of classic Needtobreathe songs. On "The Outsiders" the album starts out with a strum on the banjo. That's a great thing about these guys is that they have such a broad use of different instruments and that contributes to their unique sound. Frontman Bear Rhineheart also has a great voice, very soulful and on the edgy rock side. Of course, being from South Carolina, there's an obvious southern flare in the music, which always makes a listen really fun. The title track, "Prisoner", "A Girl Named Tennessee", and "Lay 'Em Down" are some great songs that really stand out through the first listen. The great thing about the music is that after the first listen, different songs stand out differently each listen afterward. That's the big thing that made me a fan of Needtobreathe. I hope after you give them a listen, the same thing will happen to you. They are such talented musicians and songwriters. You can almost feel the passion that drives them when you hear the songs, and it certainly shows in their live show as well. So, there you have it. No bones about these guys, great music, good ole Southern soul rock, just as it should be!! <>< Matthew 5:16

Stay classy,
Chuffy

I love Needtobreathe! I can't get "Something Beautiful" out of my head. I find myself singing it at the oddest moments.
