CD O' the Week - "Speak" by Dogs of Peace

This week I thought I'd reach back into the archives and dig up one that hasn't actually been released this year, but I feel this is an essential CD for ANY music lover that considers themselves worth their salt, or weight in salt, or worth a dime of salt, or even something less detrimental to your blood pressure. Now my personal CCM listening history is fairly new, mostly because I came from a background that forbade it. So what could have been a really cool thing for me was buried under the guise of protecting me from the evils of rock, even if that rock was emphatically lifting the name to Jesus. What resulted was me rebelling by listening to even WORSE rock that shouldn't have even been in my head, but now is stuck there every time I sit in a Chili's or watch one of my favorites from the 80s dance with the stars in an effort to try to resurrect their long dormant careers. ANYhoo, I started listening to Christian Rock right around the time this CD was released, however, my first introduction was a little $1.99 sampler with the likes of Switchfoot,Bleach, Plankeye, Considering Lily, and The Waiting who are all still favorites, but I have the tendency to stick with something for a while and not branch out. Long story longer, I missed this one the first time.
Flash forward to 2004, the Crowns gang are all headed to Nashville, and as is the case, weird things pop into the radio (i.e. Comedy Tapes, Old Demos, VeggieTales Sing-a-Longs) So Mark Hall pops in what I think I remember to be a cassette tape of this band. I couldn't believe how cool it was for being about 8 years old. Since then, a few of the songs always get airplay in my stereo. Do You Know, Necessary Pain and I Wanna Know are always there, but if any of the songs on this CD pop up, I won't be hitting skip. Two little fun facts for ya, if you catch me warming up on stage, you might hear the lick (butchered, of course) from Do You Know, and also our band intro jam is the groove from I Wanna Know. So because of that, I had to do a little research, but little is written.
Gordon Kennedy from Whiteheart, and studio elite Jimmy Lee Sloasteamed up and made some great music. This may be (to my knowledge, and I speak ignorantly) the only thing that Christian Music has as far as a "Supergroup" CD. I only wish I had known it sooner, and I only wish I had seen them live. I may have already said too much, but this is a classic album, and I can never get over the guitar work on this one, it may have even been a little ahead of it's time, I'm not sure.

Lifestyle. I'll be honest with you, I don't know anything about these guys, and that may be Christian Music blasphemy, but I'm willing to learn, so if you guys have any info, or links, let me know, and I'll post them.

That is true what you said about christian rock music. There are a lot of people that have said that even christian rock music with good lyrics made them want to hurt someone when they were angry.
A magazine interviewed a rock
A magazine interviewed a rock singer who wrote bad songs and asked him how he felt about christian rock music. He LAUGHED. "Rock music came out of pure rebellion," he said "The very guitars and music were made out of pure rebellion. There's no such thing as christian rock and those types of music." It's a sad thing when the world sees what the disciples don't.

DUUUUDE!!!!! I totally have that CD! i just tried to look for it, but it's not in my stash (i think it's packed away somewhere). My favorite song was "Do You Know" i used to keep that one on repeat!I think the CD that i never got out of my cd player was Mercury by The Prayer Chain. In fact, i think it cracked in half because i listened to it too much... Unfortunately, i got into them as they were breaking up 8( never got to see them. I will def have too look through my old CDs to find Dogs of Peace though... thanks for the flashback!!! haha
