CD Review: Royal Tailor's album "Black & White" leaves no gray areas.

Royal Tailor - Black & White

Hey readers! I know it's been a while since a cd review blog, but it's time to kick things into high gear!! Upon this return to cd reviews, I'd like to define for you how a cd review should be, Christian music or otherwise. Rather than a biased, opinionated and sometimes scathing rant, it's more of a breakdown of the message behind each song and a brief description of the sounds pleasing the ears during the listen. So, without further ado, we are introduced to new Essential Records artist, Royal Tailor!!!! Their full-length debut album, "Black & White" starts right out of the gate with the powerful anthem of redemption and new life paired with a great steady build of groove and each band member's instruments on the opening track "Death of Me." "Make a Move" is track 2, an upbeat pop rock jam about reaching out to a hurting world through love and letting our faith make a difference with our faith. Not to mention, they also made up a dance called the Uh-Oh, which is hard not to catch yourself singing after one listen of the song. "Freefall" is about taking that leap of faith and trusting God in the midst of fear and the challenges we face. "Control" is a song written clearly to call out and challenge those of us swallowed up by the pop music and pop culture of this generation and not take part in the "love game" and what the world calls love. With such well written lines using references of several well-known pop song lyrics, the chorus boldly sings "No, we won't let them take Control, we won't go with the flow, we've got to stand together!" It's all about fighting the good fight and a strong reminder that "greater is He that lives inside of me." The next song Gravity(Pulling Heaven Down) is about Jesus' coming to Earth to save us. It starts with a nice piano groove, and I must admit, when lead singer Tauren Wells' starts singing the first verse he sounds a lot like the King of Pop himself. After the last line of the song is sung in a big chorus, the song is seemingly over, but the piano plays softly and the band builds back in for a huge instrumental moment that captures the feeling behind the song well. Then, we come to "Hold Me Together", the first radio single from the guys. If you haven't heard it on the radio, you must check it out. It starts out with a cool acoustic groove and Tauren's stellar vocals. The song is about asking God to hold us together because we fall apart without His love. Our next track is called "Wannabe." This is one of the more electronic tracks on the record, and it's about not living for the world and that our identity is found in Christ, the One who set us free. The title track of the album starts out with piano and Tauren singing about life getting gray and wanting the truth in the middle of it. The band kicks in with a jazzy groove for the chorus and ultimately throughout the song the truth is Jesus. "Run to Love" is a mid-tempo rocker about running to the unconditional love of Jesus and forsake the secrets we hide. "Hope" is a great slow-groove about everyone's search for hope and something to hope in and finding it in Jesus. Last, but certainly not least, we come to the last track, "Love is Here." The song is written to Henry, but it can be applied to all because it's about mercy and love always being here all around us. All in all, I really look forward to seeing where God takes these 4 guys in their musical ministry. They have such a great upbeat sound and their lyrics are as strong as anything on the radio today. These guys are wise beyond their years in the message of their songs and I encourage you to check them out if you haven't heard them yet. Thanks for reading!! God bless and remember Jesus loves you!! Matthew 5:16
