(Mark Hall, Matthew West)
Did you hear of the city on the hill?
Said one old man to the other
It once shined bright and it would be shining still
But they all started turning on each other
You see, the poets thought the dancers were shallow
And the soldiers thought the poets were weak
And the elders saw the young ones as foolish
And the rich man never heard the poor man speak
And one by one, they ran away
With their made-up minds to leave it all behind
And the light began to fade in the city on the hill
The city on the hill
Each one thought that they knew better
But they were different by design
Instead of standing strong together
They let their differences divide
And the world is searching still
But it was the rhythm of the dancers
That gave the poets life
It was the spirit of the poets
That gave the soldiers strength to fight
It was the fire of the young ones
It was the wisdom of the old
It was the story of the poor man
That needed to be told
It is the rhythm of the dancers
That gives the poets life
It is the spirit of the poets
That gives the soldiers strength to fight
It is the fire of the young ones
It is the wisdom of the old
It is the story of the poor man
That’s needing to be told
One by one, will we run away
With our made-up minds to leave it all behind
As the light begins to fade in the city on the hill
One by one, will we run away
With our made-up minds to leave it all behind
As the light begins to fade in the city on the hill
The city on the hill
Come home
And the Father’s calling still
Come home to the city on the hill
Come home

This is a message we all need to hear.
To appreciate each other's ability and not to look down on our brethren because they don't do it our way,.. Lord help us LOVE. I Love u CASTING CROWNS.
THIS IS MY FAVORET SONG
Casting Crowns, Well done!!
May God continue to bless your song writing talents for His glory!! I've been ministered to and blessed by many of the songs on this CD. The lyrics are a true message and challenge to all followers of Christ. Let us not be the stumbling block but the catalyst that they may know HIM!
This is the music that stirs godly passion in our souls. Thank you for sharing your amazing talents with us.
A very timely message - sometimes I think the Body of Christ needs a good kick up the 'you know where' -so many churches busy with their own agendas and events ... how can we have the audacity to expect people to come to our church services and events when we don't even know, or care what the church down the road is up to ... or how they're fairing??? Sometimes I wonder what it would take to cause the Church to come together in a true spirit of unity, under one banner - Jesus Christ?!?
Saw this group in concert, and they are awesome! Loved hearing them sing this song from the new CD. Keep bringing us more...
Just bought the "Until the Whole World Hears" CD yesterday. We're going to see Casting Crowns at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion here in the Houston area on May 5th. All that's really available is lawn seats, but that's ok. When you're in the back you can see the hundred and hundreds of people in front of you, all with their hands raised in praise to our Lord Jesus!!! Works for me!!!
The Holy Spirit was working in this creation!
Really a blessed song that speaks volumes to today's church. Keep up the good work. God bless!
