I'm so blessed and thankful Jesus is a friend of sinners because He is a friend of mine. I have done so many things that don't deserve forgiveness but Jesus has forgiven me and helped me turn my life around and I'm stronger now, and I'm learning to forgive myself and learning that my past is the past, although i will never be perfect, my life will be continue to better because Jesus is a friend of a sinner. I spent this particular day so angry about so many things until the Lord dealt with me about it and I'm so passionate about people seeing Jesus in God's children and a part of me kept thinking "How are people going to see Jesus in me if I'm so angry?". Somehow, this song just ministered to me in all of this. Thank you so much. This is one of my absolute favorites.

Duane Kenyon say these song lyrics are unbibical and not the truth. Where in Gods word does it say that Jesus is friend of sinners.? God hates all workers of iniquity. what is a worker of iniquity? I like Casting Crowns works, but this song misses the mark..

Matthew 9:10-13 Duane, I do believe God hates iniquity, but He earnestly calls the "workers of iniquity" to Himself. He loves them so much He gave His life for them. "Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." He is truly the "friend of sinners" and I think the Bible does teach this clearly.
Thank you for this. This is part of the great mystery that is so hard for many of us to focus correctly. Jesus is definitely the friend to sinners. Both in a sense of those who did not commit themselves to the Law, which was used to obtain holiness and salvation outside of God, and in the sense that He is always looking for His lost sheep. Any message we send as a Christian, we should be sure is truly from the Holy Spirit and not from our new versions of the Law that we hold to. This is a very relevant song for us all.
Luke 7:18-34. We are all sinners and He died for the whole world.
Such a great song delivers so well. We christians are just sinners like everybody else except that we have been forgiven. That sword of the spirit GOD gave us is to be used against the enemy, not our fellow sinners. It is a weapon of both defense and attack.
There is so much good biblical stuff in this song as there is in so much of CC's music, but "The world is on their way to You / But they’re tripping over me" is not accurate according to Scripture. While it can be true that my sin may be a barrier to others - and this is something I should repent of - the world is not on its way to Jesus. Jesus is reaching out to a lost world whose back is turned away from him and is running the other way. Only the power of the Holy Spirit through the Gospel turns people back to God.
