I retired early to go to Malawi where I am a Christian Missionary living in Nsanje Malawi in the furthest southern part of Malawi. We learned that nursing infants whose mothers die usually starve to death, so we began a baby formula program to help those nursing babies survive their mother's death. They are cared for by their fraternal grandparents primarily and live in in the same village with the rest of their family. It has been a great way to gain the trust of the coimmunity and make a real difference. We also work closely with the district hospital and advocate for patient care. We built a community center that includes a library, a class room and a clinic in Ngabu Village about 6 miles south of Nsanje where the hospital is. We have helped over 50 babies survive since 2006 and pray we can do even more. We created Empowering People Internationally (see our website)which is a non-profit organization to help with our work in Nsanje. For the most part we are funded through our local church, Church By The Side of the Road in Seatac Washington and thru private donations. I am in the states now for a break but will return to Malawi in January of 2012, but our work their continues in our absence. I had wanted to go to Nyasaland since I was 10 yrs old andI didn't know until I had already decided to go to Malawi that Malawi used to be called Nyasaland before getting their independence from England. God is so good to me He got me where I wanted to be since I was a child and I know He put that into my heart. Now I am in Malwi, doing God's work and loving it. I am truly blessed
